Earlier this year, a Constitutional Court ruled that the Personal Medical Savings Accounts (PMSA) form part of the assets of medical schemes. Although members still have control over their PMSA, which they can use to cover out-of-hospital and day-to-day healthcare needs, they will no longer earn interest on their PMSA. The Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) has noted with concern the article published in The Times newspaper, dated 26 September 2017, that states that untrained staff members employed by the Scheme's public relations firm dispense medical advice on the online member information support channel.
