The designated service provider for HIV medicine

As part of our commitment to providing you with affordable and comprehensive benefits, GEMS appointed a courier pharmacy, Medipost, as the Designated Service Provider (DSP) of all HIV medication for our members.  As of 1 July 2011, purchasing chronic medication from any other pharmacy will attract a co-payment of 30%. This is inclusive of medicines used to treat HIV.  As the GEMS HIV Manager, Aid for AIDS (AfA) will continue to register, manage and care for members as normal.

Advantages of receiving your HIV medication from Medipost:

  • If you choose to obtain your HIV medication from a pharmacy other than Medipost, you will incur a 30% out-of-pocket co-payment.
  • Discussions about your medication are confidential.
  • Your medication is delivered to your preferred address or nearest post office without anyone seeing what is inside.
  • Medication used for other chronic conditions (e.g. High blood pressure and Diabetes) can be delivered together with your HIV medication.
  • Medipost reminds you to get a new repeat prescription 21 days before your current prescription is due to expire.
  • Medipost has a well established relationship with Aid for Aids.
  • Medipost and Aid for AIDS are currently in the process of contacting all patients registered to get HIV medication. This is to ensure that they are aware of the new process.

If you choose to use Medipost to obtain your HIV medication, the following will be discussed with you:

  • The new process of obtaining HIV medication
  • Remind you that a valid prescription is needed before medication is dispensed
  • Confirm your preferred delivery method
  • Confirm your preferred delivery address
  • Verify your contact details
  • Explain any co-payments that may apply

You can submit your HIV medication prescriptions by fax to 0866 51 8009 or email it to [email protected]. Alternatively, you can contact 0860 00 4367 for assistance.
