The Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS), Registration Number 1598, was registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act 131 of 1998 with effect from 1 January 2005 as a restricted membership medical scheme for Public Service Employees and employees of participating employer groups.

The services of suitably qualified and experienced service providers are required for the rendering of services to GEMS.

Medicine Exclusion List for June 2012 ›

GEMS makes use of a Medicine Exclusion List. The objective of the MEL is to protect the Acute Medicine Benefit through the exclusion of certain medicines from payment. The list is updated and communicated to providers on a regular basis.
