Don't let your claim get stale

According to the Scheme Rules, claims must reach the Scheme within four months from the treatment date. If your claim is not received within this period, it is considered stale and GEMS will not pay for these late claims. If your claim is received within four months and rejected due to outstanding information, you then have 60 days to resubmit the claim with the missing information for payment.

How to avoid stale claims
It is important to ensure that all your claims are submitted on time to the Scheme. If your claim is rejected for any reason, the rejection reason will show on your claims statement explaining why your claim was not paid. For your claim to be paid correctly and to avoid preventable claim rejections, please make sure that the correct information reflects on your claim. To know what is to be included on your claim, read the Claims Guide by visiting the GEMS website at www.gems.gov.za.
