‘Bigger and better' benefits and innovative provider registry to further increase the appeal of GEMS >

In Cape Town today the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) announced a substantially enhanced benefit structure and an innovative new provider registry designed to bring providers and members closer together.  "Friends of GEMS", as it is known, will make it easy for members to find healthcare service providers through SMS technology. The scheme also announced its contribution increases for 2008.

In a mere 18 months the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) has become the country's largest restricted medical scheme. Dr Eugene Watson, Principal Officer of GEMS, announced today that the Scheme covers more than 150 000 principal members and approximately 400 000 lives and is the largest restricted medical scheme in South Africa.
