Post cataract spectacle benefit - with us you are never out of sight

Margaret claimed and received new glasses a year ago. Recently she had to undergo surgery to remove the age-related cataracts that had developed in her eyes. After the cataract operation, her lens prescription changed and she had to get new glasses. Because she had already exhausted her medical scheme optical benefit, she now has to pay for these glasses out of her own pocket. 

GEMS has introduced a benefit specifically for this situation. Where the optical benefit for a beneficiary has already been exhausted and new lenses are required due to cataract surgery, a spectacle benefit of R798 which includes a frame benefit of R158 is available. This therapy is a Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB).

There is no need for any special requests. Just ask your Optometrist to submit the claim the normal way.
