Managing your claims from aboard


As a member of GEMS working abroad, we understand that you have unique requirements to access your healthcare benefits.
Here are some tips for managing your claims from abroad and ensuring that your benefits are protected from abuse.

Ensure that the official GEMS travel/international claims form available on www.gems.gov.za is used when submitting claims. Please ensure that your claim form is complete and provides a description of the treatment. This makes the claim easier to process.

Please ensure that the following details are correct:

  • Provider type (for example a dentist)
  •  Service dates
  • Condition treated
  • Specified treatment performed (procedures and consultations)
  • Specified tests performed (for example pathology and radiology)
  • Medicine individually named and priced
  • Additional items listed with full name and pricing.

If the above documentation is in a foreign language, ensure that a complete English translation is also sent to GEMS.
