Change of banking details: FICA requirements 

As another measure to protect your benefits, in order for GEMS to change your banking details, you are now required to submit a certified copy of your Identity document (ID) together with the following documents which must not be older than three months:

• A bank account statement, a crossed cheque or a letter from the bank either signed or stamped; and
• Proof of your residential address, this is can be in the form of a utility bill such as your municipal account. Please note that any documents older than three months will be rejected and this may delay your refunds. 

It is important to submit these documents as GEMS is has to comply with FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001) which fights money theft and fraud by by helping to identify individuals who engage in such illegal activities.
