The GEMS Medicine Provider Network (MPN), which dispenses both chronic and acute medicine, was activated in May 2013. This means that as a GEMS beneficiary you now have a choice in how you get your chronic medicine. You can either have it delivered to a preferred address or collect it from your local Network pharmacy.
GEMS is in the process of allocating all beneficiaries to a pharmacy of their choice. Once the allocation has been completed, an SMS will be sent to you confirming your chosen pharmacy. You will then be required to collect your medicine from that pharmacy for a minimum period of six months.
These pharmacies cater for all GEMS options; therefore you won't be liable for a co-payment. However, if you choose to get your medicine from a non-Network pharmacy; you will incur a 30% co-payment. If you choose the Courier Pharmacy your delivery details will be verified and the medicine will be delivered there every month.
