Prevent medicine surplus

GEMS dispenses medicine every 28 days according to your valid prescription. If you do not take your medicine as prescribed, you may end up with extra medicine. When this happens, it is commonly known as oversupply of medicine.

Here are some pointers on how to prevent this from occurring:

  • Always check the medicine authorisation, medicine access card and the prescription to ensure that what has been authorised is what the doctor has prescribed. If there are any differences, please contact us on 0860 00 4367 or send an email to [email protected].
  • Remember to take your medicine as prescribed, for example, the right amount at the right time.
  • Do not skip a day; set reminders to alert you to take your medicine at your preferred time.
  • Should you still end up with extra medicine, go to the GEMS website at www.gems.gov.za and print, complete and submit the Chronic Medicine Delivery Amendment form to stop the delivery of medicine or call us on 0860 00 4367 to make the necessary arrangements.
